Paddleboarding is a fun and relaxing way to enjoy the water. It’s also a great, low-
impact workout. Here’s a simple guide to help you get started:
Step 1:
Gather Your Gear –
Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP): Choose a stable board that suits your skill level.
Beginners often benefit from wider boards for better balance.
Paddle: Adjust your paddle to be about 6 inches taller than you.
Leash: This goes around your ankle and keeps your board close by if you fall off.
Personal Flotation Device (PFD): Always wear a life jacket for safety. Our Vests are
equipped with a Marine Whistle in case you need to signal.
Water Shoes (Optional): These provide grip and protect your feet.
Step 2:
Carry your board to shallow water, about knee deep. and place it on the
surface.
Step 3:
Getting On: Kneel in the center of the Board, directly above the handle. This is
the center balance point and provides the most stability while you’re learning.
Step 4:
Paddling Techniques: Grip the top handle with one hand and place the other
hand further down the shaft. Remember to keep your top hand across your body and
switch hands to paddle from the other side. Become familiar with how the Board moves
in the water with each stroke.
Step 5:
Standing: Once you’re comfortable, slowly stand up in a smooth motion, one
foot at a time, starting with your back foot. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart,
knees slightly bent. Keep your body centered over the board. Look forward, not down at
your feet. If you feel unbalanced, bend your knees and look at the horizon to regain
stability. Experiment with different paddling techniques and positions on the Board. As
you become more comfortable, you’ll be able to completely control the speed and
direction of your travels.
Step 6:
Safety Tips: Always wear your PFD. Stay aware of your surroundings. Watch for
other paddleboarders, boats, and obstacles.
Step 7:
Enjoy Your Adventure – Once you feel ready, explore different locations! Spend
time practicing in calm waters to build your confidence and balance. Paddleboarding is
meant to be a peaceful experience that can lead to amazing experiences on the water!
